1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, the leading international art fair dedicated to contemporary art from Africa and the African diaspora, was delighted to return of 1-54 Marrakech at La Mamounia hotel, recently voted the Best Hotel in the World by Condé Nast Traveller. The fourth edition on the African continent took place from 9-12 February 2023.
The 2023 Marrakech edition welcomed leading galleries from Africa and around the world and featured an ambitious programme of talks and events in partnership with local institutions from Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech, Musée d’Art Contemporain Africain Al Madeen (MACAAL), Institut Français, LE 18, and Fondation Montresso among others.
In February 2018, the fair was successfully launched in Marrakech, allowing 1-54 to broaden its reach and further diversify its portfolio of exhibiting and promoting gallerists as well as artists who are connected to Africa. Home to one of the continent’s most dynamic arts scenes, Marrakech provided the perfect setting for the fair, building on the city’s creative energy fostered by artists, galleries, and institutions.
