Qubeka Bead Studio was formed in 2004 by three artisans and businesswomen – Neliswa Skiti, Nolubabalu Kanku and Mandisa Masina. As a fine art beading studio, the trio work closely with a variety of artists to translate their ideas, drawings and paintings into beaded artworks. With the artist’s vision critical to the success of translating brushstroke to beadwork, the process relies heavily on collaboration – the task of translation and interpretation proves a delicate process.
Yellowwoods Art facilitates this relationship between artist and artisan by playing a pivotal role in ensuring both parties are equally supported. Qubeka Bead Studio has produced work for Spier Contemporary Art Collection in Stellenbosch, South Africa; Hollard Insurance in Johannesburg, South Africa; Nando’s South Africa, UK and Australia; as well as for private collections. The studio has also worked with many celebrated South African artists including, Conrad Botes, Liza Grobler, Doreen Southwood, Lyndi Sales, Marlise Keith and Wayne Barker.
