Montoro12 Gallery was founded in 2012 by Ursula Hawlitschka in Rome. In 2017, the gallery opened a second space in Brussels. The gallery’s mission is to exhibit young and mid-career artists from different parts of the world to offer its audience a 360-degree view of the contemporary art scene.
In 2019, Montoro12 Gallery started an artist residency programme in Rome with South African artist Chris Soal as its first resident. The residency programme was curated, until the end of 2021, by Tiago de Abreu Pinto. Montoro12 Gallery represents many important international artists like Larissa Sansour, who represented Denmark in 2019 at the Venice Biennale, and Faig Ahmed, who represented Azerbaijan in 2007 at the Venice Biennale, among many others.
