In 2009, André Magnin founded MAGNIN-A as a way of further developing artists’ careers and participating in the contemporary African art market. MAGNIN-A represents a number of established artists along with young and emerging artists from across the continent. Magnin started his research in contemporary art in non-western cultures for the seminal exhibition Magiciens de la Terre, Centre Pompidou and Grande Halle de la Villette 1989, for which he was the assistant curator. From 1989 to 2009, he constituted the Pigozzi Collection, one of the largest private collections of contemporary African art. He has curated a number of monographic and group exhibitions at museums, foundations and arts centres across Europe and America. As a specialist in the field, Magnin has published books and articles and continues to curate exhibitions alongside his commercial activity.
