LE 18: I screen

I-Screen is a video art programme curated by LE 18, originally imagined with the aim of screening leading video and filmmaking from regional and international scenes in unusual places such as cafes, squares, streets and gardens of Marrakech. While this unconventional distribution format will be realised in Marrakech in 2018, the programme has been readapted for 1:54 in London, conceiving it as an immersive experience with works selected specifically for this occasion. In this new configuration, the programme showcases videos, short films and documentaries developed by artists LE 18 has been collaborating with throughout the years, investigating the relationship between cultural and spatial heritages, subjectivities and the processes of their formation, in the context of a constellation of multiple, varied and at times conflictual public spaces and sociopolitical hierarchies. Selecting works that intersect questions linked to competing identit(ies), territories, mobilities and social geographies, the programme further aims at expanding our definition of ‘heritage’ and the socio-cultural and artistic modalities by which heritage is reactivated, humanised, but also challenged by past and present dynamics of movement and exile.

With: Zainab Andalibe & Nicolas Kozerawski, Touda Bouanani, Simohamed Fettaka, Hamedine Kane, Lina Laraki, Yasmine Laraqui, Rim Mejdi, Abdelmohcine Nakari, Anna Raimondo, Said Rais, Othmane Saadouni, Oussama Tabti, Emeka Udemba, Jacob Wiener.

Founded in 2013, LE 18 is an independent creative platform and exhibition space promoting artistic and cultural exchange. The organisation supports emerging artists with research and residency programmes, increasing visibility of its artistic projects through exhibitions, presentations and public gatherings. LE 18 serves to connect the Marrakchi cultural landscape with international art scenes by inviting international artists to develop and realise projects at its site in Marrakech.
