Kanbi Projects features an innovative and multifaceted exhibition programme focused on contemporary art by artists of African descent on the continent and from the global diaspora. Founded in 2017 as a nomadic curatorial practice, the project pivoted in 2020 to champion a group of exceptional emerging and mid-career artists. Adopting a collaborative model together with its cohort of artists and partners, Kanbi Projects seeks to facilitate the dissemination of artistic research and diverse practices addressing relevant social issues of the Black lived experience.
The gallery’s programme highlights include Untangling The Perils That Tangle Us, a group exhibition in 2021 supported by Arts Council England in collaboration with The Koppel Project. In 2022, Kanbi Projects launched the initiative Launchpad, a virtual exhibition series presenting solo projects with young artists.
