Dedicated to supporting African art and culture, Fondation Zinsou aims to provide access to art making and exhibition in Benin. In addition to having presented 25 exhibitions of African and international artists since its inception, Fondation Zinsou hosts a full programme of pedagogic workshops and activities, and works in partnership with over 300 schools, operating a bus service between the sites. Publishing artist and exhibition catalogues on a regular basis, Fondation Zinsou continues to establish ‘Mini-Bibliothèques’ (small-scale libraries) across the city.
In 2013 Le Musée opened its doors in Villa Ajavon in Ouidah, Benin to host Fondation Zinsou’s permanent collection. Celebrating its tenth birthday, Fondation Zinsou produced an interactive application entitled ‘WAKPON Museum Project – Off the Wall’ designed to commingle audience engagement with art and technology. WAKPON takes its users on a journey of artistic exploration, where users may experience 10 contemporary artists featured in the Ouidah Museum collection in Benin in an completely new way. Produced entirely in Africa, WAKPON uses augmented reality (AR) technology to provide users with the opportunity to ‘build your very own museum’ by following simple instructions.
