
Alexandria Smith is a mixed media visual artist known for creating paintings, collages and installations that utilise her archive of completed work to create new images through a regenerative collage process. The figures in her work are simultaneously a mirror image and twins, which speaks to religious, spiritual and sexual states of being. Based in NYC and London, Alexandria earned her BFA from Syracuse University, MA from New York University, and MFA from Parsons.
Smith is the recipient of numerous awards including: the Queens Museum/Jerome Foundation Fellowship, a Pollock-Krasner Grant, the Virginia Myers Fellowship at the University of Iowa and the Fine Arts Work Center Fellowship. She has been awarded residencies at MacDowell, Bemis, Yaddo, LMCC and Skowhegan. Smith has exhibited work at MassMoCA, Boston University and the deCordova Museum. Alexandria’s first solo museum exhibit, Monuments to an Effigy. debuted at the Queens Museum in April 2019.
