Safaa Erruas graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan, where she has been living and working ever since. Her work explores ideas of the body and borders through the meditative abstraction of visceral objects. Having stripped back the use of her materials to just a few, including cotton paper, metal needles and wires, and broken glass, Erruas subtly contrasts sensibilities and textures. The materials delicately capture the variations of natural light, conveying notions of motion, space, and time.
Erruas’ drawings and installations are in the major institutional Moroccan art collections, as well as private European ones. She has exhibited in two survey exhibitions of Moroccan art, at the Museum Reina Sofia, Madrid, Spain and at the Cobra Museum, Amstelveen, the Netherlands.
