Mudariki, Richard

Born in 1985 in Seke, Zimbabwe. Lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa

Richard Mudariki trained as an Archaeologist from 2005-2009 and studied painting at Gallery Delta under the mentorship of renowned artist, Helen Leiros from 2000-2007. Richard’s paintings are a visual comment on various aspects of life in Zimbabwe and on the African continent. His recent solo exhibitions include Mubvakure, Gallery Polaris, Paris (2019); Politics of Painting, 1- 54 Contemporary Art Fair, New York (2019), Mawonero Angu Barnard Gallery, Cape Town (2018); and an early career retrospective titled Mutara Wenguva – Time Line, Sanlam Art Collection, Johannesburg and Cape Town (2017). Mudariki has also participated in numerous international art platforms in London, Paris, Cape Town, Milan and New York.

Richard has spoken about his practice to various audiences around the world, recently at 1-54 Contemporary African Art in New York (2019) under the title Without a name: Living and working in between Spaces, as well as at a roundtable discussion on African contemporary art and its ecosystem at UNESCO, Paris, as part of their Africa Department Discussions. Mudariki’s work is included in numerous collections, including Iziko South African National Gallery, Cape Town; The Bruce Campbell Smith Collection, Cape Town and The Museum of Modern Art, Malabo.
