Renan Aguena is a self-taught artist who develops research and artistic production from the suburban territory of Rio de Janeiro. With this research, he seeks to create a field that goes beyond the limits of his production and the multiple themes that may cross it. It is an attempt to create real contexts of analysis about the structure of the city and its thinking, in relation to art, and how this explains a colonial, elitist, and classist city.
He sees his production as a construction of where his three-decade-long relationship with the territory is as fundamental as the research and deepening of the sociocultural relations that permeate this place. It is a relationship that serves as a support for the deepening of memories, footprints, and a desire to collectively build new social, cultural, and educational perspectives for the suburbs.
