
Hazel Mphande is a self-taught photographer whose work focuses on the portrayal of one’s body, identity and the abstract representation of nature. Her photographs embody a temporal wane of fleeting experiences and mimic the shape-shifting apparitions of recollection. she is especially drawn to self-portraiture. Having completed both the foundational and intermediate courses at The Market Photography Workshop, Mphande is now completing the advanced course at Through the Lens Collective in Johannesburg. Mphande’s work has been exhibited at several group shows, namely: 30 Days in a CITY; SHE Clix; and Photocoment issue 49. She participated in THE IMAGE IS OUR VOICE at Berman Contemporary, 2021. She is now part of the New Vanguard Programme mentorship programme for 2021.
