After receiving the national diploma of visual art in 1989 from the regional School of Art of Dunkirk (France), Mohamed El Baz succeeded in getting the national diploma of plastic expression from the National School of Paris-Cergy in 1992. He then pursued his studies at the Institute of the Advanced Studies in Visual arts in Paris. Since 1993, El Baz has carried out a project entitled ‘Bricoler l’incurable’ (literally meaning ‘knocking up the incurable’). An unremitting and forceful examination of the trajectories of contemporary social and political issues, this total artwork continually accrues new works, with each exhibition operating as an additional ‘detail’ to the ultimate work.
El Baz has held numerous solo and collective exhibitions throughout Casablanca, Paris, Lille, Kuwait, Johannesburg, Dusseldorf, Copenhagen and Finland. His work can be found in the permanent collection of the National Fund of Contemporary Art in Paris and the National Museum of Modern Art in Lille, among others. Seven books have been published on Mohamed El Baz’s artistic projects.
