Omar Mahfoudi has been painting, taking photos and filming the contradictions of his country and of the modern world for the past twenty years. In his work, Mahfoudi tries to reinvent and rewrite the history of the human beings through emotions as he comes from a culture where figurative art is prohibited. Over the last three years, however, Mahfoudi has looked at the world from a political and humanistic point of view which has given his work a different momentum. His work has since focused on male friendship in Morocco, exploring it through melancholy, violence, and sensuality. He has also focused on migration, attempting to understand formulations of crowds, exodus and movement. Mahfoudi has performed at Musée du Quai Branly, Paris and his work has been shown across Morocco and France regularly.
