
Mohamed Hamidi completed his studies at the École supérieure des Beaux-arts in Casablanca. After graduating, he went to France to pursue training at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts and the École des Métiers d’Art in Paris. Upon his return to Morocco, he worked closely with the painters Mohamed Melehi, Farid Belkahia, Mohamed Hafid and Mohamed Ataallah, during the manifesto exhibition that took part in Jamaå EI-Fna Square in March 1969. Hamidi’s work increasingly focused on symbols and motifs whilst exploring what constitutes Moroccan visual identity. Between 1967 and 1975, Hamidi became a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Casablanca. Since 1958, Mohamed Hamidi has been regularly participating in solo and group exhibitions in Morocco and other parts of the world.
