In Michele Ciacciofera’s artistic practice, the process of unravelling plural temporalities starts from a particular geophysical and social space: the Mediterranean Basin. It takes the cue from objects, natural resources, and cultures of the island of Sardinia as basic elements of human history. His effort not only challenges time but also amnesia, becoming a quest for a culture of memory. His artistic practice can be linked to certain themes investigated by different writers such as Grazia Deledda, whose work describes the pastoral world, or Giuseppe Dessì, evoking a universe moulded by traditions and commanded by cosmology and primitive archetypes and to a nature that is now transfigured.
Recently, his work has been exhibited as a solo show Southern Hemispheres, MAN Museum, Nuoro (2017) and Fragments of nature and other stories, Senesi Contemporanea, London (2017). Notable group shows include Viva Arte Viva, 57th Venice Biennale, Venice (2017); THROUGH, Aghmat, Marrakech (2018) and The Density of Transparent Wind, documenta 14, Athens (2017).
