Ndiaye, Cheikh

Born in 1970 in Dakar, Senegal. Lives and works in Dakar and New York, USA

Cheikh Ndiaye, 'Vulganisateur', 2016, Mixed media on canvas, 100 x 105 cm, Courtesy of Galerie Cécile Fakhoury

Cheikh Ndiaye graduated from the National School of Fine Arts in Dakar and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, France. Informed by a strong interest in architecture, design, and the ebb and flow of urbanism, Ndiaye’s paintings, photography, and installations are also guided by common, collective and personal modes of experiencing.

Ndiaye has participated in exhibitions across Africa and Europe. Solo exhibitions include Faire de la rue un salon d’extérieur (from the street to an outdoor living room) at Galerie Cécile Fakhoury in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire (2016), and Cinémas Africa at the Musée Africain in Lyon, France (2012). In 2015, he was selected for the 56th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale in Italy. His works have recently entered the permanent collections of Centre Pompidou and the Kadist Art Foundation — both in Paris, France. Ndiaye was awarded the Nautilus Art Temporary prize in Berlin in 2012.
