Using terracotta, Ranti Bam explores notions of the female body, the public gaze and the private, as well as the tension between fortitude and fragility. In the series, Vessels, which she began in 2017, she combines hand-building, throwing, and the use of slips to embellish surfaces with colours, patterns, and textures. The pieces created present a unique combination of painterly, sculptural, and haptic qualities that encourage rich metaphorical interpretations.
Bam received an MA from The Sir John Cass School of Art, Architecture, and Design, London, and after extensive travels, including a two-year pause in Greece, further trained at City Lit, London completing their ceramic degree course. Her work is- among others- part of the Brooklyn Museum, New York and V&A, London permanent collections.
