Yamou
Born in 1959 in Casablanca, Morocco. Lives and works in Paris, France and Tahannaout, Morocco
Abderrahim Yamou’s work is characterized by floral representations: lianas, stems, germinations, foliations, flowering, pistils, seeds, stamens, corollas and fruits. In his vivid paintings, Yamou celebrates the strength and magnitude of Moroccan land. A testament of the weight of clay, the dryness of southern plains, his works celebrate the splendor and bold features of his country’s natural landscapes. In his sculptures, Yamou crafts figures in the form of cacti riddled with nails, alluding to interrogations of collective notions of origin, fate, and adversity. Yamou received his artistic education from the University Toulouse Le Mirail and has a postgraduate certificate in sociology from La Sorbonne, Paris. His work can be found in the Neuberger Museum, New York; The World Bank, Washington; The Ministry of Foreign affairs, France; The K. Lazaar Foundation, Tunisia; The Nelson Mandela Collection, South Africa, amongst others.
