Viktor, Lina Iris
Born in London, UK. Lives and works in New York, USA and London
Lina Iris Viktor is a British-Liberian artist working with a combination of photography, performance and abstract painting. Viktor weaves disparate materials and methods belonging to contemporary and ancient art forms to call into question the nature of time and being. Her ‘light-works’ incorporate the ancient practice of gilding with 24-karat gold. To generate these works Viktor produces increasingly dark canvases embedded with ‘layers of light’ in the form of symbols and intricate patterns. Viktor has exhibited in museums in the US and further afield, including the Harvard Art Museums and The Cooper Gallery, Harvard University, Boston and the Spelman Museum of Fine Art, Spelman College, Atlanta. Viktor has participated in several talks and discussions at New York University; the ICA, London and King’s College, London.
