Soji Adesina
Lives & Works in Lagos, Nigeria
Soji Adesina is an artist whose primary modes of expression include painting, drawings and installations. He is a graduate of Yaba College of Technology in Lagos, Nigeria. Adesina has forged a distinctive impasto style through radical experimentation with materials and technique. Central to Adesina's work is a fascination with memory, visualization, observation, language, identity, globalization, sovereignty and conflict. He also attempts to make sense of how globalization and international dynamics of conflict shape the concepts of radicalization, the state, migration and sexuality, through the use of layered ironic humor, puns, metaphors, and paradoxes. The subjects of his paintings appear to be involved, deconstructed, and at times even afflicted and tortured or brazen and confident. Adesina's works have been collected by private individuals, art enthusiasts, and corporate organizations both in Nigeria and abroad. He has participated in several group exhibitions. Soji Adesina will be presented by Maāt Gallery.
