Btihal Remli is a Moroccan photographer primarily interested in the subject of female identity. Her work provides an outlet for conveying her own spatial, social and spiritual experiences alongside wider observations of social life. One of Remli’s preoccupations is the immaterial spaces created and activated by Islamic rituals, and in particular, how women occupy these traditions. Borders between secular and sacred spaces are blurred as she redraws the social characteristics of intimacy through an anthropological lens. In her work, architecture is captured as a physical extension of ritual experience, with particular attention to the material traces left by these practices. Remli studied at Bergische Universität Wuppertal; ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, Portugal and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, graduating in 2015. Recent exhibitions include Inside, Spazio Norbert Salenbauch, Venice (2017) and Les Héros de la Montange, MAXXX Project Space, Sierre (2016).
