Pedro Neves
Born 1997 in Imperatriz, Maranhão, Brazil
Lives and works in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil
In his artistic practice, Pedro Neves seeks to represent daily life, the signs that embody Brazilian people, and the cultural complexities that comprise them. His work has been built through painting on different supports and dimensions, analog photographs, and ceramic sculptures. In his research, he investigates the Brazilian identity, its relations with the outside world in conversation with colonisation, and the consequences left by this period in the country’s social reality. Neves believes that the construction of his identity is directly linked to his artistic process -— both in constant transformation. Earlier this year, the artist presented Tripa, his first solo show at Portas Vilaseca Galeria. Recently, he was one of 16 artists selected to participate in the 8th edition of Bolsa Pampulha —  one of the most important art residency programmes in the country.
