Oukpedjo, Sadikou
Born in 1975 in Kétao, Togo
Lives and works in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire
Sadikou Oukpedjo’s work questions notions of origins and heritage in relation to current issues and West-African anthropology. Oukpedjo began his career in the visual arts in 1998 assisting in the workshop of Paul Ahyi in Lomé, Togo, where he worked predominantly with sculpture. Following this period, he lived and worked in Bamako and later Abidjan, where he currently resides. The year 2013 marked a stylistic shift in his interests and he began working more exclusively with painting, though his experiments with a range of media have continued. Selected exhibitions include Art Paris Art Fair, Paris (2017); Anima, Galerie Cécile Fakhoury, Côte d’Ivoire (2016) and Le cri silencieux, Goethe-Institut, Bamako (2012). His works are included in the collections of Fondation Blachère, Apt and the Tiroche Deleon Collection, Tel Aviv.
