Mudaulane, Celestino
Born in 1972 in Maputo, Mozambique. Lives and works in Maputo, Mozambique
Vivid and geometrically bold, Mudaulane’s mixed-media works produce layers of fictive and historical narratives via a plethora of mythology, theology and quotidian motifs. A founding member of the Contemporary Art Movement in Maputo, Mudaulane holds a degree in History from the University Eduardo Mondlane. Mudaulane’s work has been featured in international exhibitions, including Contested Territories at Dorsky Gallery Curatorial Programs (DGCP), New York (2012); Distância e Proximidades a program by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon (2008); Réplica Rebeldia a Itinerant project by Instituto Camões and Museu Nacional de Arte – MUSART, Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Brazil (2006); ARCOmadrid, Madrid (2006); and the solo exhibition, Mudaulane II, Instituto Camões, Maputo (2005). Most recent is Mudaulane III, held at Galeria 111, Lisbon (2017). Among accolades, Mudaulane is a two-time recipient of the Ceramics Award at the Biennial TDM (2003 and 2005) and 1st prize MUSART – National Arte Museam of Mozambique (1999)
