Lives & Works in Chicago, IL, United States
Modou Dieng is an artist whose work opens up dialogue between Africa and the West. Through his series of "mixed media'' works, Dieng pays tribute to the young Black heroes of the Senegalese tirailleurs, a corps of colonial infantry in the French Army formed of more than 300,000 Africans from the colonies of French West Africa and French Equatorial Africa recruited between 1939 and 1945. Dieng brings them to life in his works through his abstract style that has resulted from an obvious American influence.
Dieng is a graduate of the School of Fine Arts of Dakar, Senegal, and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the prestigious San Francisco Art Institute. His works are present in the collections of great museums such as the Studio Museum in New York or the Kranzberg Arts Foundation in St Louis, Missouri. Dieng also takes part in major contemporary art biennials such as the Dakar Biennial and the Chicago Architecture Biennial.
Modou Dieng Yacine will be presented by 193 Gallery.
