Michaela Younge

Michaela Younge (b. 1993, Cape Town, RSA) is a textile artist who currently lives and works in Cape Town. Using needles, she creates tightly packed, colorful merino wool tableaux depict humorous, dreamlike narratives that reflect the absurdity of human vices, violence and obsessions, and attempts to find meaning. Her compositions feel like scenes from fever dreams -- weaving together popular culture, urban legends and myths.    Michaela Younge has shown widely within South Africa and internationally including a solo presentation at 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, London in 2019. Younge was awarded the Tomorrow/Today Award at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair in 2022 and named a finalist for the 2023 Norval Sovereign African Art Prize in 2023. Her work can be found in prominent collections including the Kilbourn Collection, Cape Town and the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), Florida. Michaela Younge will be presented by albertz benda.
