Lives & Works in Johannesburg, South Africa
Mbali Dhlamini is a South-African multidisciplinary artist and visual researcher whose work explores the process of decolonisation that is embedded in contemporary African identity-making. She performs visual, tactile, and discursive investigations into current indigenous cultural practices. Dhlamini’s work is in constant conversation with her past and present visual landscapes, often exploring and reframing archival materials. Artworks by the artist are part of the JP Morgan Art Collection and the Mercedes Benz Art Collection and have recently been exhibited at Jeffrey Deitch in Los Angeles, 2021, Sakhile&Me in Frankfurt, 2022, the Dak’art Contemporary Art Biennale, 2022, the Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria, 2022, and the Théodore Monod African Art Museum in Dakar, 2023. Dhlamini has also completed residencies at RAW Material Company in Dakar, Kehinde Wiley's Black Rock Senegal in Dakar, and at the Embassy of Foreign Artists in Carouge.
Mbali Dhlamini will be presented by Sakhile&Me.
