Lives & Works in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Marlon Amaro's practice focuses on highlighting, through personal experiences and daily iconographic research, social patterns and attitudes in our everyday lives that perpetuate racism. With strong influence from historical painting, he constructs scenes that function as visual traps by playing with the contradictory nature of his characters, the strong chromatic appeal, and the sociopolitical context in which his art was born. Painting is his main vehicle of expression. Recently, in 2023, Amaro had a solo exhibition at Espaço Cultural dos Correios de Niterói in Rio de Janeiro, and he has participated in multiple group shows, such as Brasil Futuro: As Formas da Democracia at the Museu da República in Brasília, Brazil.
Marlon Amaro will be presented by HOA Galeria.
