Leila Rose Fanner
Lives & Works in Cape Town, South Africa
Leila Rose Fanner is a painter and illustrator. Born to a South African artist and an African American/Navajo musician, she was raised in South Africa and currently works from her studio close to Cape Town. In her work, Fanner “depict[s] the gentle, natural feminine presence, the spirit of Mother Nature or the essence of the Soul”. Fanner’s subject matter explores the symbolic language of dreams and the subconscious landscape of emotions from a very personal and distinctly feminine perspective. Through her art, Fanner unfolds a story about the soul's journey within the material world, often referencing African flora and fauna, fabric patterns, and folklore. Known for her large figurative and floral pieces, often using oil and oil pastel on wood and canvas, Fanner’s new artistic direction takes her to 3D paintings, cut outs, collage, and even large fold-out art books. These are all manifestations of her evolution, and reflections of her growing progressive female community. Leila Rose Fanner will be presented by Galerie Carole Kvasnevski.
