Drawn to traditional techniques of stone-carving, Ahmed Keshta is a self-professed ‘Renaissance’ artist with a contemporary thrust, balancing his tutelage in handling granite with experiments in alchemy. He completed his degree in applied arts at Helwan University in Cairo, Egypt in 2002 before embarking upon two Goethe-funded fellowships in Germany and Pietrasanta, Italy. His current setting in Andorra provides the backdrop and inspiration for much of his structurally elaborate works. Materials as esoteric as clothes hangers and CDs become unrecognisable under Keshta’s masterful hand. Selected solo exhibitions include The Judgment of Maát, Ipsum Galería, Madrid (2017) and Migrant Kites, Casa Árabe Cordoba (2015). Works have been included in the Islamic Arts Festival 19th Edition, Sharjah Art Museum, Sharjah (2016), Museo de Bellas Artes de Castellón, Valencia (2015) and acquired for public and private collections in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, the US, the UK, France, Andorra and Spain.
