Johanna Mirabel
Lives & Works in Paris, France
Johanna Mirabel is a French artist of Guyanese and Caribbean descent who graduated from the École des Beaux Arts in Paris. Oscillating between abstraction, expressionism, and realism, Mirabel’s practice seeks to represent the complexities inherent to a life lived between cultures. Mirabel’s paintings take form from a combination of both personal recollections and taught experiences of historic or cultural traditions which constitute all that has shaped her identity and life’s journey. Her work draws from her French Guyanese and Martinique-Guadalupe heritage, sociological and philosophical writings, and western historical art references. Moving between painting and sculpture, Mirabel encourages audiences to mentally inhabit her works to explore alternate realities.
Johanna Mirabel will be presented by Luce Gallery.
