Lives & Works in Douala, Cameroon
Hervé Yamguen’s field of expression includes both writing and the visual arts. He has also made a few forays into photography and performance art, both of which have been displayed in public spaces. The dominant themes present in Yamguen’s work are eroticism and the questioning of the hierarchy embedded in the human-plant-animal relationship. Through these themes, Yamguen aims to tell innately human stories, inviting audiences to look at life with a sense of wonder, paying attention to the small details of everyday life which contain unparalleled beauty and offer moments of peace.
Yamguen’s work has been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world, including at the Musée du quai Branly for the classical and contemporary art exhibition, La route des chefferies du Cameroun, in 2022. In autumn 2016, at the AKAA - Paris fair, his sculptures were praised by art critic Philippe Dagen in an article in the newspaper, Le Monde, on November 12th 2016.
Hervé Yamguen will be presented by AFIKARIS.
