Fayçal Baghriche
Born in 1972 in Skikda, Algeria. Lives and works in Paris, France.
Born in Algeria, Paris-based artist Fayçal Baghriche grew up navigating the tempestuous waters between Arab and Western cultures. Baghriche’s performances, installations and photographs emulate scenes from daily life, illuminating the stereotypes of both human conduct and expression while challenging the frameworks of society. His subtle nuances unveil the instinctive nature of language and behaviour, fragmenting what is ordinarily considered reality. Baghriche has exhibited widely both in France and internationally. His work was exhibited at The Mosaic Rooms in London, UK in 2014; the OK Center for Contemporary Art in Linz, Austria in 2013; the Centre Pompidou in Paris, France in 2013; the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, USA in 2012; and the Delfina Foundation in London in 2012, among others. He was part of The Future of a Promise, at the 54th Biennale di Venezia in Venice, Italy, in 2011.
