Didier Viodé
Born 1979 in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire
Lives and works in Besançon, France
Didier Viodé explores identity using a sensitive approach to his own representation in acrylic works on canvas and paper.  Viodé both relies on his features and frees himself of them. He becomes the ‘other.’ His self-portraits become portraits; each shifting in its own way. Pushing the boundaries of portraiture, his body becomes a self-portrait that reactivates itself with as many possibilities – ways to look at the world. In search of human essence, it is no longer his features that count, but the gesture of the being. What emerges is the individual, unapologetically multifaceted, complex, and free.  Viodé recently exhibited at Marianne Boesky Gallery in New York in a show curated by Amoako Boafo and Larry Ossei-Mensah. His work is held in several collections, including the Fondation Gandur pour l'Art in Geneva and Fundación AMMA in Mexico.
