Cydne Jasmin Coleby
Lives & Works in Nassau, Bahamas
Cydne Jasmin Coleby received an associate degree in art in 2012 from The College of The Bahamas (now University). She captivates audiences with her kaleidoscopic work that explores womanhood and Black identity through ancestral trauma. Her artistic process is one of dedication to the craft of collage. In an amalgamation of traditional patterns, familial photographs and pop culture, she often portrays herself amidst elements that have contributed to the development of her identity. Coleby’s beautiful compositions are suffused with magic and musicality, lending them a dream-like quality as delicate as the materials used for their execution.  An accomplished storyteller, Coleby’s self-reflective work draws on her Caribbean heritage as much as the global craft traditions developed by communities of women. Coleby also explores her own connection to womanhood, frequently focusing on the matriarchal figures of her family tree, honouring and celebrating strong women that are often pictorially excluded from history. Cydne Jasmin Coleby will be presented by Unit London.
