Lives & Works in Barcelona, Spain
Charlotte Yonga’s work closely examines individuals and territories. Her photographic approach, imbued with dramaturgy, inherits a certain documentary tradition and is crossed by questions related to the notion of individuality subject to relocation, and to the dynamics of otherness and to personal identity processes. The subjects she represents, most of the time “ordinary” people captured in characteristic contexts, are at the center of attention and face audiences. In an alchemy that calls together with realism, strength and fragility, Yonga erects tangible bodies and personalities captured in their complexities. She is a graduate of the National School of Art of Paris-Cergy (ENSAPC). Her portraits are regularly published in the press titles: Le Monde, M le Magazine, Liberation, L’Obs for example. Her work has also been exhibited in France at the Galerie 31 Project, Festival Circulations, Paris Photo, the Museum du Havre, M.Bassy Hamburg in Germany, Casablanca Biennale in Morocco, Bandjoun Station in Cameroon, and LagosPhoto Festival in Nigeria.
Charlotte Yonga will be presented by Versant Sud.
