Borea, Alberto
Born 1979 in Lima, Peru
Lives and works in New York City, USA
Alberto Borea’s work is concerned with issues of displacement, using wide-ranging media to examine problems inherent to the mapping and recording of identities. There is a performative aspect to his use of materials as he selects objects and contexts that carry their own symbology and history, elements that become central to the artistic discourse. He embodies forms of expression that distance him from the centre of cultural and economic hegemonies, drawn instead to examining the stories on the peripheries of civilizations.
