Ahmed, Ibrahim
Born 1984 in Kuwait City, Kuwait
Lives and works in Cairo, Egypt
Working with both traditional and non-traditional media, Ibrahim Ahmed has developed a personal aesthetic that represents his journey as an artist and migrant. Born in Kuwait, Ahmed later spent his formative years between Bahrain and Egypt, before moving to the US at the age of thirteen. Shaped by his travels, his multidisciplinary practice challenges the artificiality of borders and questions the perceived authenticity and rigidity of national identities. In 2014, he was an artist-in-residence at artellewa Art Space in Giza, Egypt, before setting up his working studio in the Ard El Lewa neighborhood of Cairo. Ibrahim Ahmed has shown his work internationally, most recently at the 2019 edition of the Havana Biennal; the 12th edition of Bamako Encounters Photography Biennal (2019); the 13th edition of Dak’Art –Biennale de l’Art Africain Contemporain (2018). Other notable exhibitions include Architecture, Islamic Art Festival, Sharjah Art Museum (2016); ICONIC CITY: CAIRO NOW! CITY INCOMPLETE, Dubai Design District, Dubai (2016) and No Longer Empty, Jameco Exchange, New York (2015).
