Adelaide Damoah
Lives & Works in London, United Kingdom
British-Ghanaian artist Adelaide Damoah works at the intersection of painting and performance, exploring varied themes including colonialism, identity, sexuality, and spirituality. Her practice involves using her body as a "living paintbrush" to paint or print onto various surfaces while also embedding photographs, textile patterns, and text into her works. Damoah cites Judy Chicago, Jean-Michel Basquiat, David Hammons, Yves Klein, and Ana Mendieta among her main influences. Her works have recently been acquired by Fondation H and by the UK Government Collection. Damoah’s recent exhibitions include solo shows at Sakhile&Me in Frankfurt in 2021, and her first institutional solo exhibition "Mysteries of Desire" at Fondation H in Paris in 2022, as well as group shows at HausKunstMitte in Berlin in 2022 and at Gagosian in London in 2023. Adelaide Damoah will be presented by Sakhile&Me.
