Lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria
Adegboyega Adesina is a self-taught contemporary mixed media artist. Adesina creates intimate portraits of Black subjects with rich colour palettes and a dynamic sense of personality. The works present a complex but highly personal investigation of the African identity through the lens of the artist’s own personal history, as well as the people, cultures, traditions, and political views shaping his country. Growing up, Adesina used art as a tool to aid in his understanding of his school’s teachings, and the fairy tale stories he read by recreating them in the form of cartoons. With good knowledge of human anatomy, his illustrations graduated to being realistic in nature. Constantly experimenting with various mediums, Adesina employs a diverse range of media in his works; exploring the communal relationship between man and his space of existence.
