English Aboudia (Galerie Cécile Fakhoury) Born 1983 in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire Lives and works in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire Aboudia is noted for his large-scale, heavily layered, brutally energetic paintings that combine an innocence and spontaneity with the portrayal of a dark interior world. Since the Ivorian civil war in 2011, his urban landscapes have been haunted by trauma; armed soldiers, ominous skulls and a populace hemmed in by danger. Recent work continues to grapple with the hardships of life on the streets and the social inequalities of downtown Abidjan. The artist is also a master of multi-layered imagery, referencing characters from his direct neighbourhood, local ‘Nouchi’ street culture and homage to more traditional forms of Voodoo. Aboudia’s work has been exhibited at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Nevada Museum, the 2017 Royal Academy Summer Show, London and Saatchi Gallery, London among others.

Il s’inspire de son propre vécu, révélant l’énergie de la jeunesse et le va-et-vient familier de l’animation au sein des mégalopoles. Ses toiles grand format, au style fortement stratifié, établissent un contraste entre un sentiment d’insouciance et un monde intérieur sombre, un équilibre entre pathos et agression. Sonœuvrea été acquise et exposée par la Collection d’art africain contemporain (CAAC), à Genève; la Collection Tiroche DeLeon, à Jaffa, et la Collection Frank Cohen, à Londres et Manchester.
