Entitled “Disseminating Africa Now: Cartographies in contemporary practice”, this panel collectively addressed the increasing focus that is being directed toward contemporary African perspectives, from artist visibility to the roles curators, institutions, and art spaces play in disseminating contemporary practices. The conversation raised questions such as how do focal platforms such as art organizations sit within broader connotations of the ‘global’, and can we expect to see the continuation of such models acting as apertures into culturally specific narratives such as ‘Africa’ or ‘Africaness’.
