The 1-54 Studio Visit Series: Stacey Gillian Abe

Ugandan artist Stacey Gillian Abe, represented at the next edition of 1-54 Online by Afriart Gallery (Kampala, Uganda), invited 1-54 to her office in Kampala, and showed us how she edits videos and pictures on her computer.

More about the artist:

Stacey Gillian Abe’s practice draws on autobiographical documentation to highlight complex situations experienced throughout the artist’s life. In her work, Abe attempts to review conventional depictions of herself as a black woman by drawing focus to the mind’s suppleness. The resulting works materialise into imaginary spaces that instigate a surreal mysticism, probing into unsettling narratives on the subjects of identity, gender, spirituality, and cultural mysticism, the past, and present.
