The 1-54 Studio Visit Series: Kelechi Nwaneri

Nigerian artist Kelechi Nwaneri, represented by EBONY/CURATED, invited 1-54 to his studio located in Lagos, and told us more about his work.

More about the artist:

Kelechi Nwaneri’s work stands somewhere between genres of photorealism, surrealism, post-modernism and contemporary art, and fits perfectly into what he has dubbed contemporary surrealism. With a masterful command of multimedia, coupled with the conceptual feel of his works, Nwaneri explores many contemporary issues we face today. A major characteristic of his work is the use of West-African iconography: mystical, metaphysical, allegorical concepts and the Black Hybrid Figure (inspired by the idea of scarification and African tribal marks).
